Facial exfoliators and scrubs are often used interchangeably as a way to clean up the dead skin build up and thus enable serums and moisturizers to penetrate and be absorbed better. However, depending on the season, the type of exfoliator you choose for you skin can make or break it, literally.

For this fall/winter season, try the Sugar Face Polish from Fresh! Made with pure brown sugar and strawberry seeds, this face polish exfoliates and hydrates the skin to reveal a softer, smoother and brighter complexion. I use this exfoliator every week to help me gently scrub off some dead skin cells without drying out my face, had I used my regular scrubby exfoliator that I normally use for the summer. I use a spatula to scoop out the scrub and massage it into my skin with circular motions on a lightly damp face , leave it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off and patting my skin dry.

As a side note, some people tend to do their scrubbing when their skin is dry; I personally don’t like all the tugging and pulling that happens so I lightly, lightly dampen each part of my face as I massage the scrub in until I’ve covered my entire face. This way, I minimize the tugging but I still manage to get the scrubbing done without compromising its effectiveness.

I noticed that the sugar crystals dissolved within initial 20 seconds of scrubbing. The crystals of the brown sugar are very fine and although there is not much physical exfoliation with this product, the natural exfoliating effects of brown sugar and vitamin C did its magic and made my skin feel softer and brighter afterwards. It leaves a greasy residue or a film which is left on as a mask. When I’m done rinsing, the greasiness is reduced but there is still a slight bit of film left. It acted as a moisturizer and it did not dry out my skin like normal exfoliators do, nor did it leave me with any irritation, redness or breakouts.

All in all, I would recommend this scrub for sensitive, combination-dry and dry skin ladies who don’t mind a little bit of extra hydration and moisturization post-scrub. However, those who have oily skin or who simply dislike having a slightly greasy feel afterwards might have to look elsewhere for a scrub that leaves their skin squeaky clean.
