In my makeup arsenal, aside from my trusty Revlon Colorstay, my other high-performance foundation would be this little powerhouse from Make Up For Ever. It’s a medium to full coverage foundation that’s easily buildable; I just need one layer (one pump) to neutralize redness and covers blemishes and mild skin imperfections, then go in with a spot concealer for my undereye area and the odd acne scar or two.

In terms of visuals, this foundation doesn’t look heavy at all; it has a natural matte finish that looks very much like real skin. Its formula blurs imperfections and catches light to intensify your skin’s natural glow, making it almost look satiny-matte. I’ve noticed that with this foundation, the soft focus effect makes my skin look incredible under any lighting, indoors and outdoors.

I will note here that if you have relatively dry, flaky skin or you haven’t prepped your skin well with a good primer — which in my case, I’ve used it with the Bobbi Brown SPF 50 Make Up Base as well as the Make Up For Ever Radiance Primer — this foundation will not work out well for you as I noticed that it will enhance the flaky bits; in addition to it being a matte look, it will make your skin look drier than it actually is. In my experience, although this is an oil-free, water and silicone-based foundation, I’ve experienced no breakouts and once I’ve prepped my combination-dry skin with the right primer, my complexion was good to go with this foundation.

In terms of the packaging, I quite liked the fact that it’s a pump dispenser, which makes it easy to measure the right amount; its plastic packaging makes it practical and easy to carry and it fits easily into makeup cases. However, the downside of the packaging is the plastic cap, which seems like it would be the first to weaken and crack after a few months.

All in all, I’m totes up for getting a summer and winter shade with this HD powerhouse, so my skin can truly look glowy and perfect without looking like I really piled it on thick <3

    1. I wonder if you could experiment with the right combination of a hydrating/balancing primer and the right skin care? That way, it preps your skin for…a variety of different foundations 🙂
