Bobbi Brown SPF 50/PA+++ Protective Face Base Review

Bobbi Brown SPF 50/PA+++ Protective Face Base

Bobbi Brown Counter: HKD350
Volume: 40ml/tube
SPF: 50+

The summer here in Hong Kong is stifling hot with the sun shining ever so brightly in the sky; the temperature usually peaks around 36 – 37ºc, and levels out around 35ºc. With this kind of weather, I certainly love me some good makeup base with a higher SPF content that doesn’t a) clog my pores, b) leave a whitish cast and finally, c) would help protect my skin from sun damage. Wrinkles are not a nice addition to any person’s face 🙁

Enter this fantastic tube of sunscreen awesomeness by Bobbi Brown!

Upon squeezing out a quarter’s worth of the base, I felt that it was very much like a lotion without the usual sunscreen-y smell; in fact, there was a very light hint of lavender in it but it was hardly detectable once I put it on my face. I’ve applied it in two different ways to see if it affects the way my makeup ends up looking: a) spreading it on my palms first to pat it all onto my face and b) dotting it all over my face before blending it in with my fingers. Both of these methods worked just fine without affecting my makeup; it was simply just a matter of preference.

Although this product performed well as an everyday makeup base, I didn’t feel that this did much in terms of oil control. In fact, I would probably apply less of this product if you tend to have oilier skin. I normally use approximately half of a Canadian quarter’s worth of the product for my entire face during the summer; when I used this during the winter I could stand to have a little bit more of the moisturization that this base provided as my combination-dry skin leans towards being dryer during that time. In addition, I experienced no breakouts, itchy patches or general sensitive skin issues 🙂

Between this and the Bobbi Brown’s CC cream that I also have, I would use this product if I strictly wanted higher SPF coverage; I don’t feel that this did much in the brightening or colour-correcting department. For those of you who would wear this base on its own, do not expect to even out your skin tone or blur (minor) blemishes with this as it does much better when paired with a foundation; I would hesitate to say with a BB cream as I feel that that would be too greasy of a combination.

All in all, this was a great purchase and I will be popping it into my shopping basket the next time I have to stock up 🙂
