Housed in the iconic pump-glass bottle with a dark blue cap that has CD engraved on it, the pump made it easy to dispense the right amount of foundation for each application. In terms of the texture, I felt that this was a little similar to Diorskin Star, albeit more sheer; the formula is satiny-matte that doesn’t look flat or dry on one’s skin; in fact, it smoothes over and brightens up your complexion and leaves your skin looking healthier; however, your bumps, spots and marks are  will need the help of a concealer to reduce their appearance as this foundation is meant to give one a skin-like coverage in a standard pump-bottle foundation form, as opposed to the Nude Skin Air, which is in a dropper, liquid form, and in my opinion, is an even more sheerer than this foundation.

In terms of application, I prefer to use my fingers to dot on the foundation and spread it out, before using a damp sponge — can be dampened with an alcohol-free toner or serum of your choice — to soak up the excess and sheer out the foundation and give it an actual near-nude coverage. As this wore on throughout the day, I got a nice, brightened and glowy complexion and I didn’t experience any oxidization with the 010 as I felt that it blended in with my skin and my tinted loose powder helped warm it up a bit, of which it lasted well through an 8+ hour workday without looking patchy 🙂 Although I was a tad glowier in my t-zone area, it was nothing that a touch of powder or a good mattifying base couldn’t take care of 🙂

In addition, if you’re in between shades, I’d suggest that you go with the lighter shade of the two as foundations oxidize based on one’s skin chemistry so it’s better to play it safe; in addition, I’d also like to note that if you are the type to use bronzer, contour or any kind of face base product that warms up your complexion, I’d go with a slightly lighter shade to factor in the added warmth as well as the (potential) oxidization, otherwise you run the risk of getting a fairly mismatched face and neck shade 😀 As such, I would suggest that you get colour matched directly at your local Dior counter to ensure the best shade and of course, whether your skin is happy with the foundation’s texture <3

All in all, this is a great weekend foundation that gives your skin a healthy glow, which can also be prepped and built up to last through a work day <3

Diorsnow White Reveal Perfecting Makeup Base Review

Diorsnow White Reveal Perfecting Makeup Base

Price: HKD 368 (Sasa) | HKD400 (RRP)
Shade/Type: Rose
SPF: 35image

Hands down, I love this makeup base for the summer.

I picked this up along with the Diorskin Nude foundation from Sasa because a) they were on sale and b) as a member, I get an additional 5% discount off the sale price and c) I got to redeem my cash dollars….so YAAAAAAS. I saved QUITE a bit on these two items 😀

Onto the base itself, I bought it in the hopes of brightening up my Diorskin Forever foundation as I’d gotten the 020 and frankly, it oxidizes just a titch too much on my skin for my liking; it comes in the Blue shade as well as a beige shade but I wanted a healthier, slightly rosier tone in addition to the brightening effect rather than the all-brightening/whitening effect that the Blue shade one would bring, or the beige one for correcting yellow tones for that matter, hence I got the Rose one instead 🙂 Housed in a small plastic bottle with a twist cap, one would need to shake it up well before squeezing out a small amount for use. This color-correcting base is a light pink colour and its lightweight, liquid-like texture applies easily and absorbed well without leaving a greasy touch. In addition, I love how the formula also allows for a solid SPF 35 so it’s an extra layer of sun protection on top of one’s regular sun care products 🙂 I’ve used this base with my Dior foundations (Forever, Star and Nude), Estée Lauder Double Wear Liquid Foundation, Make Up For Ever HD Foundation as well as my Revlon Colorstay and I’ve had excellent success with all of them <3

As a side note, I personally would choose to use this product over my Bobbi Brown CC cream during the summer as I find that although both are fantastic products that allow my skin to look healthy and rosy while providing the same level of SPF protection, the Bobbi Brown one does leave me a little shinier during the summer, whereas the Dior one does not; I have yet to try this Dior one during the winter months/in a drier, colder climate as at the time of writing, to add to the mugginess of it all we’re also reaching temperatures of 35 degrees celcius here in Hong Kong; as such, I need a product that provides the right amount of hydration for my combination-dry skin without amping up any more moisturization as I already have a face cream for that. As such, for now, the Bobbi Brown one is fantastic for the drier and colder months/climates.

All in all, this was a fantastic find at Sasa and I’m definitely repurchasing a bottle when I run out of it for this summer 😀

Diorskin Star Foundation Review

Diorskin Star Foundation

Price: HKD348 (Groupon) | HKD480 (RRP)
Volume: 30ml
Shade: Ivory 010

YAAAAAAS 😀image

Another great foundation find on Groupon HK where the shade is spot on for me 🙂 Continuing with my Diorskin Forever foundation, I was hooked with Dior foundations and I started to branch out and test run samples from the counters and doing swatches.

I spotted this on Groupon for approximately 33% off — random percentage, I know but it is what it is 😀 — and I clicked Buy faster than you can blink because I’d already checked out local Sasas and they were either out of the 010 or the price was actually slightly higher than Groupon’s offer.

Can you feel my excitement? 😀

As soon as I picked this up from the Groupon collection point, I couldn’t wait to try it out once I got home <3 Housed in the iconic pump-glass bottle with a dark blue cap that has CD engraved on it, the pump made it easy to dispense the right amount of foundation for each application. In terms of the texture, I felt that this was a little thicker than the Diorskin Forever foundation and brighter when compared with their 010 and the Diorskin Star’s 010. The formula is satiny-matte that doesn’t look flat or dry on one’s skin; in fact, it smoothes over and brightens up your complexion and leaves your skin looking healthier; your bumps, spots and marks are also visibly reduced with a buildable medium coverage that still manages to keep your skin looking radiant and natural.

In terms of application, I preferred to use a foundation brush with this and smooth it out on my face; you can also use fingers or sponges to do that, but I generally find that a sponge soaks up too much of the product and you actually end up using more in an attempt to get a medium coverage. As this wore on throughout the day, I got a nice, brightened and glowy complexion and I didn’t experience any oxidization with the 010 as I felt that it blended in with my skin and my tinted loose powder helped warm it up a tinge, of which it lasted well through an 8+ hour workday without looking patchy 🙂 I was a tad glowier in my t-zone area but it was nothing that a touch of powder or a good mattifying base couldn’t take care of 🙂 I would suggest that you get colour matched directly at your local Dior counter to ensure the best shade and of course, whether your skin is happy with the foundation’s texture <3

All in all, I’m definitely keeping this as my HG foundation, along with my budget-friendly Revlon Colorstay and all-time favourite Make Up For Ever HD one <3

Diorsnow BB Cream Review

Diorsnow BB Cream

Price: CAD52 (DFS)image
Volume: 30ml
Shade: 010
SPF: 50

Continuing with my relatively recent Dior purchase, I picked this baby up at the Canadian DFS on my way back to Hong Kong since I:

  1. am always game for high-SPF products
  2. loved the Dior Forever foundation and was curious as to how this one would turn out
  3. needed an excuse to try another Dior product 😀

I’ll be honest here and admit that since there were only two shades available, I just grabbed the lighter shade of the two and dashed to the cashier’s before boarding my flight with the flight attendants broadcasting the last calls 😀 There were no samples available on the shelf and I completely went with my gut feeling and combined it with my experience with the Diorskin Forever foundation and decided to get the 010 instead of the 020.

As soon as I got home completely jet-lagged and tired, I turned on my laptop and started Nordstrom-ing this product to put my anxious mind at rest; it turns out that I made the right choice in terms of shades and apparently, this BB cream:

  • is a clinically proven brightening-treatment collection that evens the complexion, diminishes the appearance of dark spots and increases radiance
  • is powered by Icelandic glacial water and Dior’s exclusive transparency-enhancing complex, and its new formulas counteract skin acidity and targets all five features of a radiant complexion (evenness, luminosity, moisture, texture and plumpness).
  • illuminates your complexion with a flawless, even radiance that is intensified day after day.

Now I was excited to sleep off my jetlag and immediately put it on to try it out 😀 However, I didn’t and I just fell asleep after reading the reviews on Nordstrom(and then some :D). After test running it for the past couple of weeks, I feel like I’m ready to talk about the BB cream 🙂

Packaged in a matte, soft-plastic pump-tube, I love how travel-friendly this product is! I feel like I just shrank my makeup bag by at least two bottles-worth of space (i.e. SPF and Foundation). The pump-tube is a great dispenser for the product as I found it quite thick with just one pump; I was able to get a very good medium coverage with just one pump of the BB cream on its own After doing that test run, I feel that half a pump of the BB cream on its own is already a great everyday coverage; if you do a full pump, I feel that it can lean towards being mask-like.

As such, I’ve also tried the following combinations with this BB cream and you can try them out too:

  1. Mixing half a pump of the BB cream with half a pump of the Diorskin Forever foundation since I found the latter a little warmer than what I would prefer and the BB cream balanced it out well
  2. Mixing a drop or two of my Estée Lauder ANR II serum with the BB cream for an extra boost of hydration for my constantly dry skin during most seasons (note: ladies who have oily skin may opt out of this method as the BB cream is actually quite good with hydration on its own, but it wasn’t quite enough for my parched complexion)
  3. Mixing a drop or two of Argan oil to the BB cream for extra moisturization during the colder months
  4. Mixing half a pump of the BB cream with a pump of a moisturizer that I have on rotation to get a tinted moisturizer with a sheer to medium coverage for the weekends or just when your skin doesn’t need that high of a coverage.

Side note: These combinations are not just made solely for the Diorsnow BB cream, but really, any foundation/bb cream that you have in your beauty bag just to test out different textures and of course, making sure that you’re getting the best mileage out of your base products during any season.

As it’s only been a couple weeks, I can’t attest to its darks spots elimination claims, but I can definitely note that not only did the BB cream even out my imperfections and my complexion looked brighter, healthier and more radiant after using this product 😀 Unlike what I did though, I would suggest doing a makeover session at the closest Dior counter and try the BB cream directly on your skin to gauge what shade would work best for you as I feel that the shades in the Diorsnow line lean more neutral/light as well as whether you actually like the texture of the BB cream itself because as noted earlier, it can feel quite thick 🙂

All in all, in addition to the high-SPF, I loved the packaging and performance of the product itself; I’m definitely keeping an eye out for this one at the DFS and Groupon because although it’s an amazing product, the price is definitely a factor to consider <3

Diorskin Forever Foundation Review

Diorskin Forever Foundationimage

Price: HKD450
Volume: 30ml
Shade: 020

Yes indeed, ladies. I went ahead and got a Dior foundation because…it’s just so luxurious! <3 I went right up to a Dior counter and found a really nice makeup artist who took off my base makeup and shade matched me to a T with both 010 and 020; the 010 is a slightly brighter shade and the 020 is an exact match when applied fresh; however, when I add contouring, bronzer and just generally going through a long work day, the foundation darkens a smidge. Just a smidge. Therefore, I would prefer the 010 next time as I can account for the smidgen of darkening and my contouring and bronzer. For now though, it’s nothing that mixing a pump of my Revlon Colorstay or Make Up For Ever foundation with the Dior one can’t fix 🙂

In terms of packaging, the foundation is housed in a classy frosted pump bottle and it has the classic CD imprint on the lid. The glass bottle is sturdy and it’s easy to see how much foundation you have left in the bottle 🙂 In terms of the foundation itself, the Diorskin Forever promises a matte finish, but that’s not what you’re going to get, unless if you have very dry skin. With sensitive, combination-dry skin, my skin looked naturally beautiful and healthy as the foundation has light to medium coverage. I used one pump for my entire face and I applied the foundation with my fingers; from the pictures, you can tell that the foundation is very fluid and easy to use. I prefer to apply it initially with my fingers first and then buffing out any potential streaks with a beauty blender. Throughout the day, I noticed that although the shade darkens a bit, the coverage and staying power is quite the amazing <3

One aspect to note here is that it’s very important for one to use a proper makeup removal product and process with foundations that have great coverage and staying power; I’m not talking about a couple swipes with micellar water, or wipes or even just a cleansing milk. I mean the full on cleansing oil, cleansing cream — I’m a double-cleansing kind of girl 😀 — and possibly even throw in a muslin cloth or Clarisonic just to be extra thorough <3 I noticed that even after a shower, it was easy for trace amounts of the foundation to remain on my skin; although I’ve always been a cleansing oil + cleansing cream kind of girl, any time and any day, I would be extra careful with making sure that every bit of it has been removed and I’d even go as far as to use a muslin cloth to help out 🙂

All in all, I’m pegging the Dior foundation as a luxury purchase that I would go back for once I’m out of this current bottle; in fact, this line has opened up a whole new range of luxury foundations for me and I’m very interested in trying out their Diorskin Nude, Diorskin Star and Capture Totale foundations<3
