Origins Face Masks Review

Origins Face Masks2015-08-14 20.24.07

I am a great fan of the Origins’ series of face masks and as such, it’s generally a budget-friendly move when I pick up duty-free sets from the airport/DFS; I also love how I can mix and match the masks to map out key areas of concern, as opposed to slapping on a face mask over our entire face and risk drying out my face 🙂

Hey, anything to trim the budget and put it towards nicer serums right? 😀

Without further ado, here we go!

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask2015-08-14 20.22.02

Price: HKD260
Volume: 100ml

Normally, I would do a nice facial scrub prior to putting this mask on. Fortunately, it’s okay for me to put the charcoal mask on my entire face as it doesn’t dry out my skin. In addition to being fragrance-free, the charcoal mask is a magnet for blocked pores and blackheads because after I wash off the mask, I find that it is much easier to clear out (particularly) stubborn blackheads on my nose with a blackhead clearing tool (sorry, I know it’s gross :P)

Origins Out of Trouble 10-Minute Mask2015-08-14 20.20.13

Price: HKD260
Volume: 100ml

Upon application, this mask has a distinctively minty and tingly feeling and it is effective! I normally leave this on as a spot treatment for any red spots and pimples rearing its ugly head. I find that it works best when combined with the No. 7 Rapid Spot Rescue Treatment afterwards to ensure that the nasty little buggers are annihilated as soon as possible. With all this in mind, I would not recommend putting this all over your face as it’s actually quite drying. I made a newbie mistake with this one early on, and I was left with flaky patches on my cheeks. 🙁

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask2015-08-14 20.21.09

Price: HKD305
Volume: 100ml

As an overnight mask, this is quite hydrating with a mild herby scent. I feel that this is a relatively economical and natural alternative to Eve Lom’s Overnight Mask. Even though this is supposed to be an overnight mask, I find that it’s a little too sticky for my liking to smush my face into and all over my pillow, so I normally like to (lightly) tissue off and put on my regular moisturizer before I sleep. I find that my skin is nicely hydrated and bouncy in the morning after 🙂

Dr. Andrew Weil For Origins: Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Skin-2015-08-14 20.22.48Calming Face Mask

Price: USD38
Volume: 100ml

I tend to bust this mask out when my skin is feeling angry and looking blotchy and red. In addition to being hydrating, this mask is supposed to (herbally) calm your skin down and reduce redness and sensitivities. This is a creamy mask that is light in colour and pretty much goes transparent once it has been on your face for the 10-minute time frame; in addition, this mask stays creamy and does not harden like clay masks do. Once applied, you almost feel an instant relief as it feels very soothing on the skin. I’ll admit that I wasn’t a fan of this mask’s scent as it’s a cross between mushrooms and herbs…kind of weird. But it does what it’s supposed to do and it’s to calm my skin down and reduce redness. 🙂 Compared to the Overnight Mask though, I feel that I would get more hydration from the Overnight one instead of this one though….but it could just be because my skin was angry to begin with when I used the Plantidote, as opposed to being in its normal state but needing extra hydration.

All in all, these masks have stood the test of time (for us) and consistently on our repurchase list 🙂
