I couldn’t help it.

I had to bust out one of the bottles from the travel set and try it out before my trusty Bobbi Brown one had run out 🙂

As one of Shu Uemura’s most popular cleansing oil, it targets dull skin caused by daily environmental issues (i.e. pollution), and for those concerned with anti-aging. There are a total of six different cleansers to target the needs of specific skin types, but they all commonly remove makeup gently and effectively while maintaining the skin’s natural level of moisture. The Anti/Oxi cleanser is not only supposed to remove makeup, it is also supposed to work deep into your pores to remove dirt and sweat as well as pollutants that can speed up the aging process of your skin.

I took about one pump of the oil and massaged in onto my mug that’s full of makeup – minus my eye makeup as I prefer to use a separate product for that area. The instructions on the box says to use 3 to 4 pumps but frankly, one pump is more than enough and that’s a pretty awesome aspect given the price of this cleanser 🙂 There was a surprising yet soothing earthy, woodsy, herbal smell mixed with a hint of sweet ginger and lime when I initially massaged it onto my face but the smell didn’t linger once I washed my face.

I really like how my skin felt refreshed and clean without feeling tight afterwards – the light scent was definitely a bonus 🙂 In addition, the packaging made this a winner in my book as it’s a twist-lock pump that makes it pretty easy to take along for travel 🙂

The first cleansing oil that I ever tried since I started wearing makeup for special occasions, and consequently fell in love with, is the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil (High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil Advanced Formula). As noted in my previous reviews, I love cleansing oils that emulsified for a rinse-off kind of makeup removal as opposed to a (harsh) tissue off situation. This product did it all for me and still kept my skin soft, supple and hydrated. I stayed faithful to this product for both makeup and makeup-free days throughout my late high school and early university years. I then switched to Bobbi Brown’s Cleansing Oil purely because I wanted to try something new….and thus our relationship ended then.

Fast forward to now, Mama Cappuccino picked up a travel set of the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils on one of her trips, and gifted it to me a couple weeks back. All of those lovely nostalgic memories came back to me when I saw the box – drama performances, graduation, first makeup experiences and the like. Although this travel set didn’t include the original one that I had used back then, I’m excited to try them out as soon as I finish up my Bobbi Brown one:

  • Anti/Oxi Skin Refining Anti-Dullness Cleansing Oil
  • Blanc: Chroma Brightening & Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil
  • POREfinist Anti-Shine Fresh Cleansing Oil

I’ll keep you all posted 🙂
